A family-run sustainable Butcher's Shop in Pett
My great-uncle, Robert Whiteman, opened the Old Butcher’s Shop in Pett in 1934 under the name R. Whiteman Butcher & Poulterer. Today, though much has changed over the years, the business is back in the family and still offers a wide range of high-quality local meat, poultry, game and associated products.
It is important to us that we can not only trace our meat but know and trust the producers. For example, our pork is from pigs that are bred, born and reared just 7 miles from the shop and delivered to me personally by the lady who breeds them. All our meat is locally-sourced from farmers and breeders known to our family – in some cases for generations.

Clean and well stocked shop with some lovely local produce including vegetables, dairy, pickle/chutney, jam, honey, juices and plenty of herbs and spices. They can take telephone orders for collection and have a stall at the farmers market in Norman Road, St Leonards, every Friday. The home baked ham is exceptional, the bacon is the best I’ve had and even betters the London offering. Everyday chicken and all manner of beef, pork, lamb cuts are very worthy. The Christmas offering is always excellent (be it goose, turkey, duck or beef etc). Good strong bags that can be put straight into the freezer. You can choose the size of chops and allso see both sides of your joints, always willing to help and gives plent of advise. Sarah runs it, it's been in her family for generations, she really takes pride in showcasing local producers including the local farm in Pett! Well worth a visit and only just off the A259.
